As a child, Alexandra Bricklin (Meisel) was a musical prodigy. By six, she was hearing full symphonies in her head. Great works were expected. Instead, her life work, her magnum opus, has been the raising of her autistic daughter.
In spite of this massive full-time challenge, Alexandra, now in her sixties, pulled out songs and poems delegated to a forgotten file cabinet, and for the past year has been working with the encouragement and musical support of David Namerow, a percussionist, to create an inspiring debut performance at Our Community Cup.
Alexandra’s musical style has been called jazz-infused folk. She enjoys throwing in the occasional scat. Some of her music is haunting, supporting deep, heart wrenching lyrics. She does not hold back. Her vocals are distinctive, with her early classical music training evident.
