“When every other band zigs, Fluteous Maximus zags.”
Fluteous Maximus is a tale of two duos.
Rusty and Jan are a husband wife folksy duo. They began collaborating in 2000. Jan is a classically trained flutist and saxaphone player. Rusty is an old folkie and songwriter. Together they’ve forged a unique sound. They belong to the Pennsport String Band and the Philadelphia Folksong Society. Two years ago they realized one of their dreams to play at the Philadelphia Folk Festival.
Bassist Chuck Darrow and keyboard player Lance Fingles have been musical partners for over 40 years. They played their first gig In 1973 with their first band Gunk. Since then, they’ve been Whiplash and Waupelani. For the last 30 years they’ve been Nytrous, an original music band. They describe their music as both “21st Century Classic Rock” and “Progressive Pop”. The pair have been writing songs together since the mid-seventies and released a Cd called “It’s About Time”.
These two diverse duos somehow found each other and melded their sounds to form a new musical amalgamation.
With the option of three different lead singers, Fluteous Maximus are able to cover a wide range of music idioms, and bring three-part harmony to many of their songs.
